Starting July 8, 2026, every store selling consumer products will be required to file safety reports electronically with the CPSC. The rule applies to retailers — not just the brands they carry — and missed reports can lead to civil penalties.

Three simple steps from install to compliant — all inside Shopify Admin.
Install in one click from the Shopify App Store. Your product catalog syncs automatically — no migrations, no onboarding calls.
Get alerted when CPSC recalls affect products you sell. We monitor official recall data daily so you don't have to.
Create Section 15(b) safety reports with a guided form. Export a clean document, submit it, and keep a tidy compliance history.
Built for busy Shopify merchants who'd rather sell products than read regulations.
A step-by-step form walks you through each part of a Section 15(b) report — product details, hazard description, what you're doing about it. No legal jargon, no blank pages to stare at.
We check official CPSC recall data every day and flag any matches against your catalog so you find out fast — not after a customer does.
When a recall matches one of your products, we pre-fill the report with your product details and the official hazard language. You spend minutes reviewing instead of hours retyping.
See every product's status at a glance. Green means filed, yellow means in progress, red means action needed. The deadline is always in view.

Plain-English answers to the questions merchants ask most.
What is Section 15(b) and why does it matter?
Section 15(b) is a federal rule that requires anyone selling consumer products — including online retailers — to report safety issues to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Starting July 8, 2026, those reports must be filed electronically. Stores that miss a required report can face significant civil penalties.
I'm a retailer, not a manufacturer. Do I really need to file?
Yes. The reporting rule covers retailers, distributors, and importers — not just manufacturers. If you sell physical consumer products through Shopify, you need a process in place before the deadline.
Does RecallDocket submit my report directly to the CPSC?
No, and that's intentional. RecallDocket prepares the complete report in the format the CPSC portal expects and gives you a clean text export. You review it, paste it into SaferProducts.gov, and submit. You stay in control of every filing that goes to a federal agency.
Will RecallDocket fill out the report for me?
Most reports start blank so you can describe your situation in your own words. When a recall in our system matches one of your products, we can pre-fill some fields — like product name, description, and the official hazard language — so you're not retyping information you already have. You always review and edit before exporting.
What happens after the July 8, 2026 deadline?
The reporting requirement is ongoing. Any time you become aware of a safety issue with a product you sell, a new report is required. RecallDocket keeps your filing history organized so you always know what's been submitted and what still needs attention.
What's included in the Free plan?
Up to 100 products, recall monitoring, the compliance dashboard, 2 recall alerts per month, and access to the help center. No credit card needed to install. eFiling draft creation is included on the Basic plan and above.
Where is my product data stored, and is it safe?
Your catalog data is stored in a US-based database, used only to help you fill out reports. We encrypt your Shopify access tokens at rest and never sell or share your data. If you uninstall, your data is deleted within 24 hours.
Purpose-built for Shopify merchants who sell consumer products — designed from day one to make CPSC compliance feel manageable, not overwhelming.
